Customised Excel Spreadsheets
Recently we had a request from a client to produce a management report required by the country's Ministry of Health each quarter. It that took them a long time to produce by collating different reports manually. The difficult part for us was that the result had to be an Excel spreadsheet with three different worksheets inside it.
After looking at a number of options we decided to get to work with and directly create the report as an OOXML workbook (as used by Excel 2007 with an xlsx extension). The workbook is actually a zipped collection of XML files inside various folders, so it was quite a bit of work.
The end result is a great hit with our client, and the good news is that the workbook creating code is available for use for other reports.
